GONNA MAKE IT COUNT
Somebody asked me about my blog titles the other day. All of my titles are lyrics. Sometimes they’re from songs that aren’t very good, sometimes they’re from songs that were made up (Bluebeard drinkin’ rum in the middle of night), but most of them are from really good songs. I try to make them correspond to the entry itself or how I’m feeling at the time. Sometimes they don’t, and are just parts of a song that is running through my head. If your curious, most times you can just type in the line and then ‘lyrics’ on google to figure t out.
So there ya go.
Now for something completely different.
I started a new story. It’s not very short, but I really like where it’s going. In general, I like to create characters. Most of the time, they don’t ever turn into a story, but this particular circle of characters are some of my favorites. EVER. So, I started writing. Usually, I’m able to finish a story in 10 pages are so. This one is 12 and I’m just getting started. It’s not really about anything but the characters. I was talking to someone about last night though, and he thought it was a pretty cool idea and that the characters were fairly absurd. But, I really that about them. It’s easy for me think of them as real people. I have entire backgrounds for them, and even though most of it will never make it into the story, having those backgrounds makes it easier to write. JK Rowling did that with Harry Potter. Even very minor characters had complete backgrounds. In an interview once, she talked about how Seamus Finnigan actually has a very important background. His life was pretty important pertaining to the world of magic. However, this never really made it into the books because there wasn’t time for it. It’s rumored that she’s going to write an encyclopedia explaining all the characters. So, that’s sort of what I did. Ollie (the main character) and Laney (her best friend) have backgrounds that, in my humble opinion, are pretty interesting. In the story, however, it’s nearly impossible to incorporate it all. So, you get blurbs here and there.
Maybe this isn’t necessary. But when I read, it’s almost real to me. The Outsiders for instance. Those characters weren’t just characters. They were my friends. Same with Harry Potter. And the Time Traveler’s Wife. And Of Mice and Men… Whatever. You get the idea.
So, there ya go. This one, I would like to let people read. When it’s finished. Which it is far from.

I love it so much. OMG I actually did some thinking after lunch the other day. I have never really really tried to develop anything like that. I think I have what could be an awesome Idea. We will talk about it later today. <3 I think that you are on to something. Keep it up.
ps. Did you and Allison go on a mad hunt for Oedipus Rex, both your titles are lyrics from that song lol. :)
How do you come up with names for your characters? Do you build their personality, and then assign a name that seems to fit it - or do they just come to you?
Thoughts?
I ask because I always have trouble coming up with names.
“Adam” is the lead role in my movie.
Adam?
Please.
